Axe to tree, soul out of body. Take 'em down before they gettin' old. Sad to see, oh that it's sorry but the ground is cold so blisters are born from a home in town, maybe a block from the main well it's better than medicine from the ground, the innocent building no shame. As he swing, singing along with the sound bringing a nevermore as he begins with the door (oh and he ends with the door) Chorus Da da da da da da da da da da.. well it's better than medicine.. out of the ground... Wood to walls and then on the floor built a table so tall but the chairs are shorter tired fall, that oaken bed. Took 'em years to carve that headboard there and wood above, soon to be lower than snow, thought it a never know, take it all as them angels are falling from the wood above soon to be dry from the rain, bringing a never been, bringing it all the same. Chorus Bridge- No one waits... x3 for the never say. No one goes... x3 for the never know But it's always loud... x3 down at the never now. Drag that tree, body's hungry. Stack 'em upside down now to live below. Said to see all a bit of the worry cause the ground it is cold so blisters were born from a home in town, maybe a block and a day well it's better to let it in from the ground bringing it all the same. Then he found a door that would fit in the frame let 'em just set it in let it just live and then Chorus End

Gone 03:58
Heard her say that it's easy now, well it's easy now, it's so easy now that I'm gone, gone, gone, gone, gone. Used to make all them comfort sounds, so pleasing now, can only see it now that it's gone, gone, gone, gone gone. Gone gone gone gone gone, Heard her say yeah, them years are gone but I'm older now and I won't be fooled by a song. Well, you take all them decent times, losing yours but I'm holding mine, till they're gone, gone, gone, gone gone. Gone gone gone gone gone... Any day, any hour now, gonna start getting so sour now oh that's when she's sharing her bed again. Always hear about losing touch but it just seems that she touched too much and then she's sharing her bed again. Oh, that's when she's sharing her bed again. Heard her say that it's easy now, oh it's so damn easy now, now that I'm gone. Well you take all those decent times, you losing yours but I'll hold on mine at least at least till they're gone....

Dawn, going to bed. Sit on my hands before long just can't stand in the end. Black into red. Run if I been there to long just can't handle what's gone, dead noise in a song. Walk back again see more out than the in all along. But sleepin' ain't easy when you don't belong... In the dawn, going to bed. Paper burns words turns to heat for my feet in the morning. Silence is said to be all them leaves on the trees when the wind it is dead, dead noise in a song. Walk back again, see more out that the in all along. But sleepin' ain't easy if you don't belong in your bed. You work through the night and the morning is cold, cold cold again. And you walk through the day for the words that will pay and them eyes try to stay so, so damn wide open. There in the night, sound in the walls and the stairs there to fall or decide. Up on it now, grip on that banister how can you ever get down? Down no then it's gone, walk back again see more out than the in all along. Chorus/repeat/End

Poor Girl 05:53
Poor girl, there is a reason, there is a reason why everthing goes. Poor girl, ain't no use in pleasin, there is a reason why everything goes, there is a reason why everything goes. Poor girl, wake in the morning, pull up them blankets your feet will be cold. Poor girl, work in the winter, outside them horses will watch you grow old. Outside them horses will watch you grow old. Oh, outside, the merchants are buyin'. Looks like the coal it is the first thing to go. Seems so clear that your money's no good here, outside all of them horses they are all that you'll ever know. Outside all of them horses they are all that you'll ever know. Poor girl, there is a reason, there is a reaon why everything goes. Poor girl, ain't no use in pleasin, there is a reason why everything goes, there is a reason why everything goes, there is a reason why everything goes.

Seasons Gone 04:26
Seasons gone away, soon be right back there again. Sun it just looks so strange, right back there again. Liar going to leave his bride, sneak away before the day. Liar going to leave his bride, sneak away before the day, them lies they ain't hard to say. Does it feel like it's gone? Does it feel like it's gone? Does it feel like it's gone in the end it doesn't take too long. Seasons they change, you better shore up that door. Seasons they change you better shore up that door, mercy me Lord, mercy me Lord. Why do them eyes always look to the floor? Why do them eyes always look to the floor? Mercy me Lord, mercy me Lord, it's like when that face always tells so much more, mercy me Lord, mercy me Lord. Why does that gun just look so fine? Why does that gun always just look so fine? Mercy me Lord won't you spare me the time? Mercy me Lord won't you spare me the time? Cause people they change, better bolt up that door. People they change, better bolt up that door, mercy me Lord, mercy me Lord, People they change, better bolt up that door, Mercy me Lord, mercy me Lord. Mercy me Lord, mercy me Lord. Does it feel like it's gone? Does it feel like it's gone? Does it feel like it's gone in the end it doesn't take too long.

Be Somebody 03:17
Well Merle is saying I'm along to bed. The sun is gone so I go down there and silver dollar is a wise man's head but in the hand then you can be somebody. so the silver it'll turn to lead Something shiver it's a long lay down there. and mama's sun is a friend of a gun, well he's just trying to be somebody. Oh well to be somebody, is it worth to leave somebody? Is it good to be somebody when when you give it all to get it again. Well Merle is talking to his God again, Saint Elizah is/wrote a song he should be singing it's a sentimental time for this, Father of lies in line to be somebody. He just got paid by the painter, it's a life of red and waiting. but that maybe ain't no savior it's a life he found it waiting. That sound out loud is guilty now those dogs are chasin, rain and then that house is sinking down but now those bastard saints are saving him. Well Merle is saying now I'm off to bed, but it's a song that I will go down playing. That silver dollar is a wise man's friend, but on my eyes I tried to be somebody. well in a battle I couldn't buy a bed, but now they say that I did lay forever cause/and mama's son is as dead as a gun, I was just trying ah to be somebody, yeah, Oh, to be somebody, chorus/end

Dirt Farm 04:43
Chorus Along the way, the band will play. Get on the way, there ain't no hesitation. Along the way, the band will say. Get on the way, there ain't no hesitation again. Get along dirt farmer electric in the ground. Used to have friends but they found an end, oh used to play it so loud. Oh, it's an old drink of water pullin' it up from the mud. After the rain all the dirt grows again then it is dried up and gone. Chorus Crunch them eyes dirt farmer. Neck to the side for the sound. Take any rhyme for the next two lines then try to turn it around from the rain all the dirt feels the sun, then it is dried up and gone... Hesitation... is riding along. I got no patience... the doctors are wrong. Hesitation... woven and knitted so low it can last so long. Chorus Grip them sticks and wonder. Head there upside down. Take any rhyme for the next two lines then try to turn it around from the rain all the dirt feels the sun then it is dried up and gone like the friends who all found an end, oh used to play it so loud rhymin' them last two sounds, yeah, just to turn it around. Chorus/End

The Sparrow 03:27
Sit on down and reason out a bit of the day but in the morning they just caught in the rain. Sit on down and lie there on the bed as they say well, the leavin' is the easier way. Chorus Sit down, sit down, in the weeds on the way. Sing out, sing out Etta Mae. Sing out, sing out, in the weeds on the road. Cry out, cry out, Cassie Jo. Well to begin again the sparrow is their favorite friend and they ask her how and why when she flies. Hell is sittin' in a bottle and and they know it'll end oh, but will they find the will there to try? Chorus Well in the middle all the lovin' is their favorite thing but they never knew the sparrow could sing. Well, the scarring of the heart it ain't their favorite part and as it flies, the sparrow will cry. Chorus Bridge- Reason, reason, feeling all the pain and then bite down, fight now, the weeds are growing, weeds are showing. Reasons, reasons, stealin' all the shade for the light now, right now, weeds are growing, weeds are showing Reasons, reasons, reasons, leavin' is the easier bye now, right now, them weeds are growing down. In the end the simple sin is trying to stay but in the morning they just caught in the rain. Sit on down and reason out the running away cause the leaving is the easier way. Believing is the easier way. Chorus End

Draw me a line to door go and show me the sand playing old chords with them words above board after my own heart at its wits end. Not a ghost of a chance there to haunt up the land bury it then now where has it been? Oh brother, oh god, oh goodness aside is it now or never again? Dream on, down and outside. Outta shape oh but fit to be tied. Back to the well or the good straight to hell oh Lord willing that hill there don't rise. Not a ghost of a chance there to tear up the land bury it then now where has it been? Oh brother, oh God, oh goodness aside, is it now or never again? Bridge Just a minute, just around the bend justice it is blind, so why not keep a bad man within you, most of them good ones don't mind. So write now between the lines. No strings attached but the hands are all tied. Hot in the darkness to take in all of this shed light now just throw it aside. Not a ghost of a chance there to run from the land bury it then now where has it been? Oh brother, oh god, oh goodness aside oh brother Lord willing that hill there don't rise, oh brother, oh God, oh goodness but when is it now or never again? Oh brother, oh God, oh goodness but when is it now or never again?

Old Town 05:09
God damn the soul around this place, fall down and love it anyway with animals at bay. But too loud to talk about it now, fall down and love it anyhow, animals come round. Chorus Down with time, but in a reason I find the soul falling from their holes. And it goes, but there just ain't no pleasing that door anymore. Like a man of sight now turning blind Like a dirty mind all acting kind Like a crow depending on the road, still it goes. God damn the dirt there on the floor, no doubt about it anymore, them animals indoors. But too proud to talk about it now, fall down above it anyhow cause everything comes round. Chorus Bridge You got a good head on you but it's telling you to take it away. The bottom is better there whether or not it is ever away. The other's in trouble and it's a subtle place to give it away. God damn the sound around this town, nobody listens anyhow when animals are found. Not far, they're marching through the yard and door, no doubt about it anymore, everyone's so sure. Chorus/End
11.
Better Say 05:01
Better say anything, like that rusted bell won't ring in the day. Better lay anyway, like that empty light won't shine in the night. Never try any high that doesn't show but goes around, all around, quarter up now to fill it down but don't, don't delay, don't take it, dont' make it my, my mistake. I need a line but it's so hard to find that Chorus It may be killing me still I will give it away. I don't mind it filling me still I will give it away. Losing that better way, like that old damn tree won't stay in the ground, using it anyhow, like that old familiar sound long ago from the never know that doesn't show but goes around, all around, quarter up now to fill it down but don't, don't delay, don't take it, don't make it my, my mistake. I need a line but it's so hard to find that Chorus Better say anything that old light'll bring Better lay anyway, what a soul to stay never try any high that just makes you sigh. Losing that better way, that old light'll stay using it anyhow, that was then this is now all them little sounds are just going round. All around, and around, quarter up now to fill it down but don't, don't decay, don't take it, don't make it my, my mistake. I need a line but it's so hard to find that Chorus/end

Fire flies to burn where it lands, turns the green to sand. It’s been seen to never send or even drop a little into what could stop a stitch, a cut no matter what the sadder choose, oh, they always lose. So may you end all of your troubles, pray for the mothers, buy off your own brother that old shovel that you need May your hands always be sure, heart sometimes be heard as you Try to find the pleasure of some damn good company. The more you lose, the more you have to be. Tired times to learn how to stand, but even now a reason both those feet’ll fall again. But make it all... depend..., no matter where the badder been, oh, they always win. Chorus So give a birthday to the ground, it’s earned it all by now and to say it’s not allowed you must be blind burnin’ oak and maple, ashes on the table, the more you lose, the more you have to find. Chorus / End
13.
Well if I mix that turpentine with just a little bi of wine, maybe I can see God before I die. Just smoke them cigarettes after the bleach done got them wet and wait for the Devil to stop by. Cause I like pain and I hate pleasure except when they get together that makes me smile when I cry. Lookin' through these lazy eyes, can't see what I deny go soak my soul, I love it when you lie. Oh, there's a stone, I push it while I roam let go, gonna chase it down again. Then sit alone, so happy here at home. Oh Lord ain't never been such a fine old prison, yeah. Life by numbers, so they say, maybe I'll see you at the end of the day cause I guess that I like pleasure just as much as pain sometimes its good to use an easy rhyme like rain cause who doesn't love the rain? But you get too much and it's just pleasure into pain. Well, if I mix that turpentine with just a little bit of wine, maybe I can see God before I die. Just smoke them cigarettes after the bleach done got them wet and wait for the devil to stop by. Cause I love pain and I hate pleasure, except when they get together, that makes me smile when I cry. All that blame comes down to whether them things working good together it's too much and finally I'll die. Just like the rain, oh, I'm falling down again, maybe gone with the day. I like the pain, well we fight it wins again Lord ain't never been such a fine, old prison, yeah, Lord how I love this simple prison yeah.... End

about

After moving from Iowa City to Fort Collins in July of 2013, we took a week to sit outside and stare at the mountains, wondering how we got here. Then we went down to our basement and built a recording studio. This involved many trips to thrift stores for soundproofing materials and many adventures with a flashlight behind our water heater, finding old doors and other hunks of junk that we recycled into our iso booth and other things. You can check out some pics if you search back on our facebook page at facebook.com/tallgrassband. It all eventually turned into this album.

The title track, 'Better Than Medicine,' is a song about building your own house. It's about the feeling someone would get after pounding their final nail into a wall. The reward from years of creating a place for their family. It would probably feel pretty good, even better than medicine. Of course, we'd have to build an actual house to be sure. And since it would most likely fall on us before we finished, we might never know... We'll stick to building studios and songs for now. Thanks for checking out the album. We worked hard on all of these tracks. We hope you like them. May all the wrong notes be right.
